Jamaica Is Ready: My Firsthand Experience at Sandals Dunn’s River & the Island’s Reopening

After months of uncertainty and heartbreaking headlines, Jamaica is officially open—and ready—once again to welcome travellers. And I’ve just returned from three unforgettable nights on the island, where I had the privilege of experiencing the vibrant spirit, resilience, and hospitality that makes Jamaica one of the Caribbean’s most beloved destinations.

This trip took me to Sandals Dunn’s River for an immersive stay filled with connection, leadership, and hope. Between a powerful Town Hall with Sandals Executive Chairman Adam Stewart and Executive Vice President of Sales and Industry Relations Gary Sadler, site visits, and reconnecting with industry partners, the message could not be clearer:

Jamaica is back. And Jamaica needs us.

A Front-Row Seat at Sandals Dunn’s River

Sandals Dunn’s River has always been a special place for me, but arriving this time felt different—more meaningful. The moment I stepped onto the property, I could feel the energy: the staff smiling wide, the teams working around the clock, the genuine enthusiasm to welcome guests again.

The resort looked beautiful. Pristine pools, lush gardens, and iconic beachfront views reminded me exactly why Ocho Rios remains one of Jamaica’s most in-demand all-inclusive destinations.

During my stay, I met with resort leaders, toured accommodations, and spoke with staff who are deeply proud of their island and their ability to provide world-class hospitality—despite everything they’ve navigated over the past months.

The Town Hall: Strong Leadership & An Even Stronger Vision

One of the most impactful moments of the trip was attending a special Town Hall featuring:

  • Adam Stewart, Executive Chairman, Sandals Resorts International
  • Gary Sadler, Executive Vice President of Sales & Industry Relations

Their message was unified, passionate, and unwavering:

Jamaica is open. Tourism matters. And we bring the island back by showing up.

Industry Connections & Community Resilience

Throughout the week, I had the chance to network with fellow travel advisors, tourism officials, and valued partners across the industry. Every conversation carried the same tone: optimism, commitment, and an authentic love for Jamaica.

What struck me most was how ready and excited Jamaica is to welcome guests back—not only at Sandals Dunn’s River, but across the entire Ocho Rios region. Resorts in this area are open, beautifully maintained, and already hosting travellers who are eager to return to the island they love.

Ocho Rios looks great. The surrounding communities are strong. And the spirit of Jamaica—the rhythm, the warmth, the creativity, the soul—has never wavered.

Why Visiting Matters

Tourism isn’t just an industry in Jamaica. It’s a lifeline. It fuels local businesses, supports families, and sustains entire communities—from fishermen and farmers to drivers, musicians, spa therapists, front-desk staff, and guides.

When you visit, you’re not just taking a vacation.

You’re helping Jamaica rebuild. You’re supporting livelihoods. You’re investing in the future of an island that gives so much to the world.
